High Peak Baptist Church wants to invest in the lives of people who join our family, whether that’s one time or for a lifetime. We know Jesus chose to love us by sacrificing himself for us. So we hope to do the same for people in our fellowship.
Our Purpose
Honor God
We seek to honor God in a worship service without a lot of glitz or showmanship, but just simple and traditional worship that includes singing, testimony on occasion, and Bible-focused preaching. We hope to take that worship with us every day as we honor God in our jobs, at school, in the community, and wherever we live.
Grow in His Word
We try to grow in his word. In John 1 we learn that the living “word of God” is actually Jesus. It also refers to the Bible. We want to grow more like Jesus as we study and apply God’s word. Second, it means that we want to not only grow more like Christ, but we want our community to grow larger as more people become disciples in our church.
Love Others as Christ Loves Us!
Finally, we love other people the way Jesus loved us. That means self-sacrificial, others-focused, and Christ-like caring and fellowship. We love people outside our church by supporting things like the Morganton Outreach Center, Burke United Christian Ministries, the Pregnancy Care Center and other causes. When people are hurting we at least pray for them and often also give to them. And we also support our members and people in our community as they have spiritual, emotional, and physical needs.
What to Expect
Our church loves God’s word, worships Him, and sees our people as family, not just church members.
Dress is casual, and worship is traditional with some modern music mixed in. Our pastor preaches using multimedia, and services last about an hour.

Meet Our Music Director
Dennis Hamrick
Dennis began serving as the music minister at High Peak about thirty years ago. He loves the Lord and leads our choir and worship at High Peak with passion and joy. He and his wife Cindy have two grown daughters. They both also work in the banking industry. Cindy plays the piano during our worships services.
Meet Our Youth Leader
Britt Abernathy
Britt Abernathy serves as the team leader that disciples our teenagers at High Peak. She’s married to Harrison Abernathy. They have two children, Cooper and Kennedy.
Meet Our Children’s Ministry Team
Mandy, Marie & Zabrina
Mandy Hice, Marie Pendley, and Zabrina Hice lead our children’s group. Mandy works as a social worker. Marie works as an accountant, and Zabrina attends college studying elementary education.
The team loves kids, especially teaching them about Jesus and His love for children. The children’s group goes on local trips, celebrates holidays together, enjoys movie nights and all sorts of fun.
