As we move into May families with kids await the coming of summer and everyone enjoys the warmer temperatures and brighter days. At High Peak we’re enjoying the renewed Spirit of God’s presence. Our worship services lately have been filled with a sense of joy and celebration that excites me. Think about inviting someone to come experience the wonder of being in God’s presence along with His people!

On Purpose

We’re in week four of our series on the Purpose of High Peak Baptist Church.

Our purpose at High Peak is to

HONOR God!
GROW in His Word!
LOVE others as Christ loved us!

… as we reach for the Peak of God’s glory!

We talked about Honoring God with a sense of excitement and celebration when we meet together and a sense of awe and wonder as you meet with God by yourself. We talked about Loving people in fellowship and service both inside the church and outside the church. We experienced that loving fellowship in two wonderful ways last week – when we prayed over our brother and sister in Christ Tommy Auton and Martha Rector and when we gathered around the supper table that night.

Go and make disciples of all nations ... (Matthew 28:19)

This week we’re going to talk about Making Disciples! Look at Matthew 28:19-20 and ask yourself if you’re a disciple maker.

Mother’s Day

We will honor our moms and then let you have the evening off with no evening activities!

This week at The Toy Store we saw over 40 people come to know Christ as Savior and we gave out hundreds of toys to dozens of families. Please pray for these new believers and their children. Also pray that our area churches will follow up with them and help them to get into a church that can love them and care for them.

Our annual Catawba River Baptist Association Toy Store ministry is in its third day today and it’s already doing really well with dozens of families helped, hundreds of toys given out and already 29 professions of faith.

Last night I took my son Daniel to help out. Barb was on hand to counsel and led someone to Christ on her last counseling appointment. As always Wayne Stamey was there all day both days. While my family and I were on hand Mandy and Zabrina Hice showed up to help out and Kristi Farley joined in as she always does.

This is a great ministry and I hope you will pray for the counselors and workers this week!

A quick note to remind everyone of the movie night that we are hosting at the Jacumin Plaza on Friday Night, September 9 starting at 9:00 PM. We need a few people to be on hand to help service popcorn, snacks and drinks. The movie will start at 9, but we need helpers to be on hand at 8:00 to set up. We will pass out information about the church.

The movie Sarah’s Choice is playing Friday July 22 at Jacumin Plaza for free. Our church is hosting the evening. Attend and invite friends. Below is the Trailer.

The story will make you think. It is about a young woman, played by singer Rebecca St. James, who becomes pregnant and has to deal with the decisions women face today.

Hopefully we will see some people who are not in church at this event so that we can invite them. This is one of those events that we need everyone to come and be part of so that our church can show its best. We need you here for this event!

Our 2011 Vacation Bible School theme is Shake It Up Cafe! We will study the feast days of Israel in a fun and exciting way learning more about ourselves and God’s word along the way. We have  classes for everyone from the toddlers to the adults. For the first time in many years we will have a class for the youth. The adult class will meet after the nightly supper in the fellowship hall. Come to eat or just come for the class at about 6:40.

High Peak Baptist Church is hosting a Fifth Quarter Fun even after the Draughn and Patton football games during the month of October. Each Friday, after the games, we will have our facilities open and ready for the students of each school and their friends to come enjoy music, snacks, and fun in a clean and safe environment. Come join us following the games.

Here are a few resources to help you with witnessing with tracts.

First – the Pocket Testament League has some wonderful resources for using just the Word of God to witness.  You can order Gospels of John to hand out.

Second – they have a good 7 lesson email “witnessing boot camp” to help you learn how to witness via their Gospels.

Third – they have a Facebook page.

Finally – consider ordering some Gospels of John to give away. They have them for all kinds of circumstances and themes to appeal to everyone from athletes to soldiers to surfers.

UPDATE: We had 2 professions of faith and over 90 enrolled. We raised around $500 for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Vacation Bible School starts Sunday with the Baobab Blast  – a week of studying God’s word and having lots of fun for all ages. We have a class for everyone from babies to adults.

Sunday – Thursday (all times PM)

Supper – 6:00 – 6:30
Classes including Bible Study, Crafts, Music, Recreation – 6:30 – 8:30
Closing Session and Parents Picking Up Kids – 8:30

Friday Night

We will have a special celebration at 6:30 with a meal and some fun to follow.
