Last night at High Peak Church we hosted what I believe will be the final Candidates forum in a closely watched race for the Burke County School Board. We advertised that all eight candidates would be attending. Unfortunately, Tracy Norman was unable to attend due to injuries from a car accident on Saturday. She did contact us before the forum but, unfortunately, we were so busy setting up that we answer the telephone. My apologies to Ms. Norman for not getting that word out last night. Our prayers go out to her for a speedy recovery.
The other seven candidates answered a series of questions from our church, members of the public, and me. I think all of the candidates presented themselves well. My wife and I agreed that all of them seemed to be decent, honest people who care a lot about the schools in Burke County. While we may have our preferences, I do not think, after last night, that we have anything to worry about going forward.
The Morganton News Herald was on hand to cover the event. You can read about it this morning in the paper or online. We also streamed it live over this site. We hoped to record it so people could see it after the fact. Unfortunately, that was not possible.
A big thanks go to the News Herald for helping us get the word out, to the 7 candidates who were able to attend, the people of Burke County who were there or watched live on the Internet, and mostly to the members of High Peak Baptist Church. Especially I want to thank the tech crew and our people who were on hand to keep people safe and informed about things like restrooms, etc. I am blessed to serve the greatest people who like to do great things for a Greater God!
Already, people are talking about “next time.” I don’t know if that will happen, but we will see.

It will be hopefully a weekly email or more/less often about things coming up at our church. If you ever want something included, then let me know.

Want to study the Bible but don’t want to buy expensive software or download a large program and install it? Well, I just found a web site that will let you do online bible research called Bible Software Tools, published by Christianity.com. These
have been available for quite some time. You will find links to the right. But Christianity.com has a software suite that is more comprehensive. It has almost all of the major translations, a decent set of reference titles, and some nice articles and spiritual helps. You can also do bible reading and devotions. The commentaries are not the best or most up to date, but they are very good. If you would like to learn more about it I have posted a brief overview on my site.

You will notice that our site looks very different.
Thanks to a site redesign we have some great new features that I want to make you aware of.
- Notice the new look and feel. It is clean and consistent throughout.
- You can search the sight using the search box at the very top of the page.
- The “Downloads” page will contain files that can be useful to you. If you ever hear the pastor say, “You can download that from our site” then you will find it there.
- Also notice the extra useful features along the right hand side. There is a local weather status section which will give the current conditions. Below that are pictures of events related to our church. Click more photos to see other High Peak Pix. Then you find links to sites having to do with our church’s denomination and finally links of use like Christian Movie Reviews, a link to our local paper, and Bible Gateway, which is a bible study site.
- On the left you will see below the welcome message a bible quotation that switches each time you visit the home page. Send us an email to add your favorite verse.
- Below that are entries from our pastor’s personal blog.
- Want to comment on any item? Click on the “Comments” or “No Comments” linke below each entry and it will give you a box where you can add your thoughts. To protect our site from objecionable content each comment must be approved. So they will not show up till later in the day after you comment.
- Finally, you can “subscribe” to our sites RSS feed at the bottom left. If you don’t know what RSS is, this might be of help to you. But it is a cool way that you can get posts from our site as they are added directly in your email or web browser without ever even having to go to our site.
Go ahead and check things out and please click on the Comments button and leave one yourself to see how it works.

Let me apologize if you are one of the few who saw the objectionable content that found its way onto our web site. They were in the forum under Pastor’s Sermons. Some outsiders joined our site and posted this content. NONE OF IT was posted by anyone who has anything to do with our church.
The fault lies with me. I set up our forum so it was easy to register since so many had trouble registering before. But because I made it so easy people with selfish motives found our site and posted links to their web sites which contained very disgusting content. This has been corrected. Now anyone who wants to register to post will have to be approved by me. When you do PLEASE USE A NAME THAT IS EASILY IDENTIFIABLE TO ME AND ANYONE ELSE WHO WOULD READ YOUR POSTS.
