Celebration of the Passion

We celebrated the Passion of Jesus Christ with a drama on Good Friday at 7 PM. Here’s the video of the performance. Forgive the low quality. Terry Stillwell shot it on my iPhone and streamed to our Ustream site instead of recording it locally and uploading it. That would result in better quality, but I wanted to stream it live. Here is the video and thanks to Terry for the help.

We look forward to next year when we hope to do an encore performance of this drama or something like it. Thanks to all the people in our church that helped us with set, costumes, music, tech, and of course the actors and singer.

Student Life Conference “Be Last” at Biltmore Baptist Church – March 1-2
Getting ready for youth Sunday – Sunday March 3 and 10 at 5 PM
Youth Sunday – Sunday March 17 with no evening youth meeting
Regular Youth Meeting – Sunday March 24 at 5 PM
Easter Sunday – March 31 with Easter Resurrection Celebration at 8 AM and Sunday and Worship but no evening activities

Bible Miniseries on History Channel

Our church will take part in a Bible study based on a miniseries called The Bible that will air on The History Channel during March. Each Sunday Night in March two episodes in this ten part miniseries will air. We recommend that you watch it at home. Use this opportunity to invite your friends and make it an evangelistic event for you.

Host a viewing party to watch The Bible miniseries for friends.

On Wednesdays we will study the Bible together focusing on the stories and passages covered in the previous Sunday’s episodes. Invite the friends that come to your home to watch the miniseries to church on Wed. We’ll have movie snacks each Wed during march with free popcorn, drinks and candy.

This will be a great way to lead up to Easter, the last Sunday in March.

There’s a kit available for $10 that people can use if they plan to host the viewing party. It includes the following items:

A host guide with tips and ideas on how to host a viewing party
20 postcard invitations
The Bible 30-Day Experience Guidebook for deeper discussion
An “I Like The Bible” wristband

Highlights: 2nd Week of Feb

We are a little more than halfway through the Not a Fan series with study four this Wednesday Night. The Youth finished up already since there’s was a little shorter. I hope you’ve been challenged to examine whether you’re a fan or a follower and began to make the changed in your life to really commit fully to Jesus as a follower willing to deny yourself, take up your cross and follow Him.

Sunday we’ll see episode 4 and talk more about it during the Evening worship.

THRIVE

Our Thrive Team will get together tomorrow night (wed) after service and talk about the ideas we discussed before Christmas. We’re going to move forward more quickly this first part of the year. I hope we will finish our process by summer. Please pray for the Thrive Team members.

Church Council

Since we called off our meeting last week, we’ll meet next week on Wed. Please plan to come and discuss some important activities for the church year. We have some important plans to make regarding Easter celebration and more.

Prayer for Church’s Outreach

I hope that our church can emphasize some outreach for 2013 including getting active in the Association’s 20/20 Vision which wants churches to reach out to every home in their area by 2020. We’ve been assigned a group of homes and it’s time to get to work.

I also see God moving in some exciting ways. People are asking for more chances to study God’s word together with new Bible study groups popping up in the coming weeks. I’m also still praying that God will give us a vision for how we can reach people in our area that might not be just like us.

Highlights: 1st Week of Feb

As we begin the second month of the year, 2013 is moving along and breakneck speed and High Peak has a lot happening this month.

MOVIE NIGHT

Our next movie night is Friday with Soul Surfer, the story of Bethany Hamilton, a professional surfer and believer who experiences a crisis thanks to a hungry shark. Her faith helps her overcome this crisis. The file does a great job of capturing the challenges to her faith and the support of her family.

We begin at 7 PM with free popcorn and drinks. Bring other snacks that you like while watching a movie. We meet in the Youth Room and follow up the film with a devotional.

NOT A FAN

Tonight we continue our study of the book Not a Fan, by Kyle Idleman. It urges us to get out of the stands and into the game as we take our relationship seriously.

On Wednesdays we have small groups for adults (fellowship hall), youth (youth room) and singles (large class downstairs).
