If you want to help in Haiti, here is a good, tangible way to do so. Of course you can pray. Giving helps too. We have already received a lot of offering money via our regular offerings in addition to our church giving $5,000. But now the Baptist Men of North Carolina have started a new initiative called “Buckets of Hope”. To learn more about it, download the PDF file which gives the list of contents and instructions for packing it.

The essentials are that you buy a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. These can be purchased locally at ACE Hardware or Lowe’s. Then fill it with the items listed in the PDF document. It includes things like rice, sugar, oil, flour, etc.. Then put them in the bucket and take it to a drop off point. In our area, the Catawba River Baptist Association is such a drop off point. You can find it on US HWY 70 between Morganton and Drexel on the south side of the road.

You need to follow the instructions in the PDF file so don’t just get the items and throw them together.

This is a great way to share the love of Christ in a tangible way. For more information you can go to the Baptists on Mission site.

The North Carolina Baptist Men are actively involved in the Haiti recovery effort. I received an email directed to all churches from our state Baptist Men leader, Richard Brunson. Here is the content of that email:

———————————————————————————————-

NCBM Medical teams are serving in Haiti, assisting a local burn clinic, children’s hospital and community hospital. A team of 7 (Team 1) arrived on January 15 by flying first to Santo Domingo, then taking a bus into Haiti. They began their work on Jan. 15 by assisting the burn clinic. On Jan. 17 they were able to support the hospital staff of Petionville Community Hospital, a 50 bed hospital seeing approximately 250 patients each day.

Medical Team 2 arrived on Jan. 20, a team of 13 – some from US, some from Hungary. They continued the work started by Team 1 by supporting the work of the hospital and staff.

Medical Team 3 had 14 people on it, including surgeons and additional medical professionals to assist with the many medical needs.

Medical Team 4 has 17 people on it and continues to assist at the clinic and hospitals. They are seeing hundreds of people every day.

Medical Teams 5 has 24 team members and leaves on Thursday, February 4 for Haiti. Teams 6, 7 and 8 are all medical teams and are currently being recruited. If you are interested click on the “volunteer now” tab and let us know of your skills.
Please pray for the teams as they provide assistance for the medical needs.

NCBM sees this as a long-term ministry. We will be sending many volunteers (especially construction), however, we do not have a timetable established at this time. If you are interested in going please click on the “volunteer now” tab below.

We are collecting items for distribution at this time. The biggest need is for money for building materials. For $2,300 you can provide funds to build a house for a family. For approximately $12,000 you can provide funds to build a small church. We are also collecting “Buckets of Hope“.

Wednesday Night Supper and Study

Just a quick note to all of our members. We are starting off our special study called For Parents Only (see the web site) this week. The purpose of this study is to help the parents of our church understand their kids and become better parents in accordance with Ephesians 6:4. I hope all of our parents will come and be at this study on Wednesday Nights in January and February. The book that this is based on is one of the most important books I’ve read as a parent. That is not hyperbole. I really mean that. It has helped me greatly and I wanted to share it with you. We will get an overview of the study this week and give out the book and the study guide.

We start at 6:30 this week. The reason is that we know many families have a hard time getting home in time to eat and then get to church. So at 6:30 we will have a meal. This won’t be a big church potluck. This week we are have soup and sandwiches. So come get a healthy, hot supper and learn how to relate to your kids.

The youth are also taking part in a similar study. The guys are studying For Guys Only which will help them better understand themselves, their parents, and girls. The girls are study For Girls Only which will do the same for them – help them understand themselves, their parents and guys.

We will also have regular Children In Action and a nursery.

If you have friends with kids, let them know about this great study!!

Here is the streaming video of the Children’s Christmas Program. They did some music at the very beginning and then after congregational carols were sung they did their play – a very cute story about the animal’s view of the birth of Jesus. After the video are some announcements about upcoming Christmas celebrations at High Peak.

This Sunday

This Sunday morning will be the next message in our 12 Ways of Christmas, based on David Jeremiah’s book. Then in the evening, the adult choir will present the Christmas Cantata – a moving message of hope for hurting people at Christmas time with some beautiful music including solos by Harrison Abernathy, Cierra Stamey and Jimmy Stamey. Drama videos are from MERGE – our drama Team. We hope you can come. There will be a preview of the Cantata in the morning service.

Christmas Eve

At 6:00 pm there will be a candlelight communion worship service. Come and bring your family for a meaningful time of worship and renewal.
