Christian Bandwagoners (Deuteronomy 6:4-5, Matthew 22:37-40)

“Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is One. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength”

-Deuteronomy 6:4-5 (HCSB

“He said to Him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.”

-Matthew 22:37-40 (HCSB)

One of the terms you hear during a successful sports season is the term “Bandwagoners”, which is a group of people who starts supporting a team that has a successful run. They jumps off the bandwagon when it ends or hits a bump in the road. I think if maybe that happens with Christianity. People proclaim Christ when everything goes right, but when life hits a bump, they decide to blame God for everything and jump off the Christian bandwagon.

The Not A Fan study we had months ago described the difference between a fan and a follower. Who are true dedicated followers of Christ and who are the bandwagon fans?

There’s a story in the Bible of “bandwagon” fans in the book of Matthew. The Pharisees bloat and proclaim they are the best believers in the world, but Jesus calls them out to prove they are just on the bandwagon.

The good thing is that if we know somebody that is apart of the Christian bandwagon, we can all share the love of Christ and help them get off before it reaches its destination.

As I look at my faith in Christ, I’ve seen it go through the highs and the lows (like my Carolina Panthers or Kevin’s Green Bay Packers) but we all humbly stay, most importantly, dedicated followers of Christ as well as, secondly, diehard fans of our favorite NFL squads.
