Start of New Church Year

Sunday, September 2 begins a new church year at High Peak Baptist Church. Our various ministry leaders met recently and planned out a wonderful calendar of events for the fall and Christmas season. Here’s a list of what’s coming soon.

September Sunday Nights

You’ve probably read Galatians 5:22-23, a passage popularly called “The Fruit of the Spirit”. Starting in September we’ll take a look at each character train of a fruit bearing believer listed in that passage. All nine of these mark the way the Holy Spirit shows himself in the lives a Christian. So join us on Sunday Nights for Sunday Night Fruit!

I need your help. We’re going to return to enjoying snacks on our Sundays with fruit themed snacks. If you want to sign up to bring a fruity snack or desert, then please let our fellowship team know. Barb Purcell is the one handling the list.

Playground Dedication Fellowship

We don’t have the details yet, but we’re planning a dedication for the new playground. This will likely come on a Saturday and include some fun things for the kids as well as food and fellowship for the whole church. Be looking for it.

Training Opportunity for Leaders

All of our church leadership is invited to a special training on September 11 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at East Valdese Baptist Church. The Equip Conference offers 8 different training sessions for leaders from children and youth leaders, to evangelism, to worship leading. Our pastor will lead a conference on prayer.

Equip Conference

The conferences include:

  • Helping Children and Youth Love God’s Word
  • Loving Friends through Addiction
  • Four C’s of Leadership
  • Beginning a Church Prayer Ministry
  • Beginning a Church Grief Ministry
  • Gifted for Service
  • Having “God Conversations” with Unbelievers
  • Leading Worship

Homecoming

The first Sunday in October is Homecoming. We celebrate the wonderful life of our church with a special worship time and a “family feast” after the morning service. Then we call off Sunday night service.

the brown family ministry

This year we welcome The Brown Family, a musical group from Traveller’s Rest, South Carolina. They are a wonderful group that have sung at The Cover and all over the United States. If you want to sample their music, please check them out online.

Trunk or Treat

Our annual Trunk or Treat will take place on Wednesday, October 31 from 6-7:30 pm. Talk to Marie Pendley about decorating your car to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters.

Holidays at High Peak

Can you believe we’re only about 17 weeks away from Christmas? Holidays at High Peak starts with our community Thanksgiving Worship Service, this year at High Peak on Tuesday, November 20 at 7 PM. This year Pastor Tim Hodge from Trinity Baptist Church will share the message. We’ll enjoy a united choir from all of the churches and receive canned goods for Burke United Christian Ministries.

The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering supports International Missions and we’ll focus on that this holiday season. During the Sunday night service on November 18 we’ll pack shoe boxes for Samaritan’s Purse. The shoes that we raised money for in our Vacation Bible School this summer will go in the boxes. Plus we’ll put other things in the boxes for the kids around the world. This wonderful gospel ministry helps share the love of Christ to millions. We’ll have an assembly line to pack the boxes, enjoy a fellowship meal and study how our Southern Baptist Missionaries are helping the refugees in places like the Middle East learn about Jesus’ love and sacrifice.

Here’s the rest of our holiday events:

  • Christmas Social – Sunday night, Dec. 2
  • Christmas Sing-Along sponsored by children – Sunday night, Dec. 16
  • Christmas Program – Sunday morning, Dec. 23
  • Christmas Candlelight Communion & Treat Bags – Sunday night, Dec. 23
  • Movie Night – Sunday night, Dec. 30
