Where Is The Love? (1 Corinthians 1:10)

Now I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, that there be no divisions among you, and that you will be united with the same understanding and the same conviction.”

-1 Corinthians 1:10 (HCSB)

Where is the love?

Throughout this year, because of what I have seen personally and on television, I ask myself this question: Where Is The Love?

  • Where is it when two Miami Dolphins teammates cause havoc on an NFL program that has the only undefeated team in league history?
  • Where is it when an NFL prospect craves for attention in ungodly acts?
  • Where is it when a high school student-athlete takes his own life because of a heartbreak?
  • Where is it when a friend, having no direction in life, goes on a crime spree and then wastes a life of potential?

There is only one answer to all this and we find it by reading the Bible and by looking to seek God in the midst of tragedy.

I just got to watch Kirk Cameron’s latest DVD project titled Unstoppable. He perfectly describes how the power of God’s grace, mercy and LOVE works even through tragedy and heartbreak. Cameron goes through the stories of Adam & Eve, Cain & Abel and Noah’s Ark answering a popular question in tragedy:

Why do bad things happen to good people?

I won’t go into too much detail to spoil the message that Cameron presented in this DVD, but the answer says that even through tragedy, the good guy wins!!!!

Jesus’ death and resurrection answers the question, when we see that the Romans and Jews schemed to crucify Jesus on the cross. Through this tragedy God displayed His power of love. Jesus was the last sacrifice for our sins and, three days later, He rose from the grave to defeat the Devil once and for all. This gives all of us one of the simple solution to all things evil in this world. We can experience the solution if we give our hearts to Christ through salvation.

I ask this question again: where is the love? It’s been here all along through the gift of sacrifice that Jesus gave.

I humbly say that I’m guilty of not sharing love like God commands us to.

The Bible mentions love many times, including 1 Corinthians 13. Read it below:

1 “If I speak human or angelic languages but do not have love, I am a sounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” 2 “If I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.” 3 “And if I donate all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body in order to boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.” 4 “Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not conceited,” 5 “does not act improperly, is not selfish, is not provoked, and does not keep a record of wrongs.”

6 “Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth.” 7 “It bears all things, believes all things, endures all things.” 8 “Love never ends.

But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for languages, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.” 9 “For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.” 10 “But when the perfect comes, the partial will come to an end.”

11 “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put aside childish things.” 12 “For now we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, as I am fully known.” 13 “Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

As I type this, like any other devotional I’ve written, I know in my heart I am addressing this to myself. When I accepted Christ as a teenager I was still living in childish ways like any other teen does. It was the Holy Spirit, through the years, that continually grabbed hold of me and emptied out my childish ways. I’m not saying I am perfect now, nor will I ever be. But I believe God is maturing me into a man.

[Editor’s Note: We see it too in Jason!]

I have been through so many things in my life that I can look back and see how God worked in me. I wonder if anybody reading this can testify to that? If not, talk to Him today. He’s always ready and always willing to fix your heart and help you mature in this life. It won’t happen overnight; it is a lifetime commitment.
